If you have heart failure, your heart does not pump properly. As a result, too little blood reaches the organs and tissues, and they do not receive enough oxygen. Because your heart does not pump properly, the organs and tissues also retain fluid. This may cause you to suffer from fatigue, shortness of breath and swollen legs and ankles.

In liver failure, your liver no longer works properly. This is because the liver cells are damaged. As a result, the liver can no longer properly remove toxins from your blood. If you have too many toxins in your blood, it can affect the brain and other organs.

Heart and/or liver failure and nutrition
If you have heart failure, your doctor or dietitian may advise you to reduce your salt and fluid intake. This is called salt restriction and fluid restriction.

If you need tube feeding, your practitioner can choose a concentrated tube feeding that provides little fluid but still contains all the necessary nutritional elements.

More information about tube feeding can be found on our website  www.sondevoedingthuis.nl  .
