History

More than 120 years ago, Nutricia’s rich history in Zoetermeer began with specialized infant formula.

In 1896, the Van der Hagen brothers received a license for the production of infant formula. Nutricia was soon able to meet the different nutritional needs of babies with four variants of infant formula.

In 1906, Nutricia developed the first specialized medical food such as low-sugar milk for diabetics and iodine-rich milk for people with thyroid disease.

Scientific research has always played an important role in the development of Nutricia’s nutritional products. In 1946, Nutricia opened its first research department: Nutricia Research was a fact. In 1950, dietitians were hired to provide nutritional information to physicians and other health care professionals.

The many technological developments in the 1960s led to the development of specialized nutritional products for the hospital.

In the 1990s, Nutricia acquired the specialized companies SHS International and Milupa, acquiring new expertise in congenital metabolic diseases and severe cow’s milk allergy.

In 2007, Nutricia became part of Danone.

Nutricia today offers a wide and unique range of medical nutrition and services for various diseases.
